Vietnam Names Non-Elite Marathoners for SEA Games 31

Vietnam will send 227 non-elite marathoners to join the upcoming 31st SEA Games, the Vietnam Athletics Federation said on Tuesday.

The non-elite runners, including 61 women and 166 men (For the detailed List please click here), will compete alongside elite runners and have a separate channel at the Finish line, according to the Asian Athletics Association.

The criteria for selecting non-elite runners to participate in the accompanying competition are 3:30:00 for men and 4:30:00 for women, who competed at the VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021 and the Tien Phong Marathon 2021, the races supervised by the Federation with the 42.195-km track certified as meeting standard. A total of 181 runners who competed at the VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021, Vietnam's leading professional race, have been qualified for the list.

 

 

The SEA Games’ marathon is scheduled to take place on May 19, 2022, with the Start time at 6:00 a.m., the athletics federation said.

DHA Vietnam, which owns the Heritage Race system, and the VPBank Hanoi Marathon’s Race Organizing Committee would like to congratulate the runners honored in the list and wish them a good preparation, both physical and mental, to reach high results at the SEA Games held in Vietnam in May, 2022.

Nearly 500 runners have competed in the FM category at the scaled-down VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021 on March 6, 2022 at Hanoi's My Dinh National Sports Complex. The race has successfully tested the expected route for the SEA Games' marathon content.

Indonesian Eduardus Nabunome has been holding Men's marathon record set at 2:20:27 at the 19th SEA Games held in Jakarta in 1997.

For Women, Ruwiyati also of Indonesia set the record at 2:34:29 at the 18th SEA Games held in Thailand's Chiang Mai in 1995.

Held annually since 2018, the VPBank Hanoi Marathon has become Hanoi’s official race and won recognition to be a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) since 2019, with a running track standardized by AIMS experts and the Vietnam Athletics Federation. Runners’ results are recognized to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon. The VPBank Hanoi Marathon has joined the Age Group Ranking System of Abbott World Marathon Majors, counting from 2022.
